Brandon Zeman graduated from Hamline in 2014 with a degree in finance. After graduation he accepted a role in Mergers & Acquisitions at UnitedHealth Group working on inorganic growth initiatives for Optum, UnitedHealth Group’s healthcare services division, where he closed eight deals representing $380 million in invested capital. Brandon is now a Venture Capital Associate at 301 INC, the venture capital arm of General Mills, where he evaluates and invests in disruptive food start-ups. He also advises 301 INC’s portfolio companies on growth strategies and key financial matters. Dave Polson's November, 2016 induction into the Piper Athletic Association Hall of Fame may be long overdue. Statistically, he is very deserving. Over forty years after his last intercollegiate basketball game, he still holds the record for the most career rebounds for a Piper. He averaged a double-double (double digit points and rebounds) over his four years on the basketball team and was the captain of the 1968-69 team.
Yet his dedication to Hamline throughout his life may be what pushed his Hall of Fame nomination to the top. As Dave says, "I believe the terrific men and women who have been, and always will be Hamline, are HU's greatest asset." Read more about Dave's time before and after Hamline.
Valerie Kelley Amsden graduated from Hamline’s College of Liberal Arts in 2003 with a double major in Management and Economics, and completed her MBA at the Hamline School of Business in 2012. After a few years working in marketing, she joined Kelley Fuels in 2006, a wholesale distributor of petroleum products in Shakopee, Minnesota. Founded by her great uncle in 1939 and guided since by her grandfather and then her father, Val works hand-in-hand with her older brother to oversee daily operations, and they will officially be 3rd Generation owners in 2017. She is currently CFO and manages the Shell brand for locations throughout the Midwest. She has served on the Hamline CLA Alumni Board, and is the 2016 Board of Directors Chair of the National Association of Shell Marketers. She was recently nominated for a second term as NASM Chair for 2017. Val and her husband, Doug (CLA ’02), live in Burnsville, Minnesota, with their three children: son Carson, six, and daughters Piper (as in the Hamline Piper!) and Henley, four and two. Read more.
