Appeldorns Fund Hamline Innovation Studies
Building on a career of innovation that included more than two dozen patents and life changing breakthroughs at 3M, alumni Roger ’57 and Marilyn ’58 Appeldorn announced they will fund a new effort called the Appeldorn Family Endowed Fund for Innovation Studies at Hamline. Mr. Appeldorn believes that no other undergraduate institution is teaching the innovation process, and this could be a unique opportunity for Hamline. Read more.
Hamline alumna named Deputy of the Year
Hamline alumna Jessica Miller Slavik ’06 was named 2015 Deputy of the Year by the Minnesota Sheriff's Association. Read more at the Pioneer Press.
ABA Approves Combination of Hamline Law and William Mitchell
Hamline University School of Law and William Mitchell College of Law received word that the American Bar Association has granted acquiescence to combine the two law schools to create Mitchell Hamline School of Law, an independent law school that will be the largest in the region. Read more.

Alumni Spotlight

Ina Baum ’07
Ina Baum graduated from Hamline in 2007 with a degree in communication and media studies and international relations. After graduating from Hamline, Ina lived in China for a year, teaching at United International College, a Hamline partner. She then returned to Germany to work for the German Commission for the United Nations Educational, Science, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). While managing the publication of the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report, she earned her master’s degree in international relations and affairs from the Freie Universitaet Berlin. Ina currently serves as Wissenschaftsreferentin (science coordinator) at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). Read more.
Amanda Hedin MBA ’09
Amanda Hedin holds a bachelor's degree in leadership and business management from the University of St. Thomas, and graduated from Hamline University with a master of business administration in 2009. While at Hamline, she traveled abroad to Italy and China and also received the Holt Fellowship. Amanda has worked in the healthcare field for 16 years, and currently has a full-time position with Children’s Minnesota and Allina Health in the Mother Baby Clinical Service Line. In 2013, she and her husband Scott started a nonprofit in honor of their daughter Eden called Eden’s Garden. Amanda lives in Blaine, Minnesota with her husband Scott and daughter Reagan, and enjoys spending time with her family and CrossFitting, biking, hiking, swimming, and traveling. Heather Alden ’91
Heather Alden graduated from Hamline University in 1991 with majors in anthropology and French. For over twenty years, Heather has dedicated her professional energies to urban education, supporting families as they overcome barriers that can pose obstacles to their children’s success and helping students overcome adversity, achieve great things, and move forward with increased hope and confidence. Among Heather’s professional highlights is Project Connection, a highly successful mentoring program she created and led that has served more than 250 students and families in Saint Paul. This year, the CLA Alumni Association presented Heather with the Making the World a Better Place Award.
