1966 MIAC Champions Honored Fifty Years Later
Not many people would have predicted success for the 1966 Hamline football team. Yet hard work, teamwork, and great leadership led to an unforgettable season. Members of the 1966 team returned to campus on October 8 to reconnect and reminisce about the wonderful memories they share from 50 autumns ago when they won the MIAC Championship. Five Chosen for Loft's Mentor Series

The Loft Mentor Series in Poetry and Creative Prose offers twelve emerging Minnesota writers the opportunity to work intensively with six nationally acclaimed writers of prose and poetry. Congratulations go out to the twelve writers selected this year, including Stephanie Chrismon, MFA '14, Lorissa Gottschalk, MFA '09, Erin Sharkey, MFA '15, Anthony Ceballos, BFA '15, Trisha Collopy, current MFA. Seven time Hamline letter winner, Hamline Hall of Fame member, and long-time high school teacher and coach, Pinky Boyd ’43 recently reflected on his time coaching youth. His tenure included roles in track and field, football, and boys and girls basketball. Pinky still maintains involvement with youth sports in the Pequot Lakes area. Read more.

Val Kelley Amsden ’03 MBA ’12
Valerie Kelley Amsden graduated from Hamline’s College of Liberal Arts in 2003 with a double major in Management and Economics, and completed her MBA at the Hamline School of Business in 2012. After a few years working in marketing, she joined Kelley Fuels in 2006, a wholesale distributor of petroleum products in Shakopee, Minnesota. Founded by her great uncle in 1939 and guided since by her grandfather and then her father, Val works hand-in-hand with her older brother to oversee daily operations, and they will officially be 3rd Generation owners in 2017. She is currently CFO and manages the Shell brand for locations throughout the Midwest. She has served on the Hamline CLA Alumni Board, and is the 2016 Board of Directors Chair of the National Association of Shell Marketers. She was recently nominated for a second term as NASM Chair for 2017. Val and her husband, Doug (CLA ’02), live in Burnsville, Minnesota, with their three children: son Carson, six, and daughters Piper (as in the Hamline Piper!) and Henley, four and two. Luke Birtzer ’15

Right after his commencement ceremony, Luke Birtzer ’15 went to the recording studio to continue working on a new project for his band, The Sawtooth Brothers. Since that time he has devoted his energy into finishing the recording, designing, red tape, promotion, and release of their debut original album. He also put his Digital Media Arts skills to work in designing a new band website from scratch, and keeping up with poster production, and social media management. All that hasn't stopped him from also starting a health and wellness business with his family, maintaining its website and blog, performing at many metro area gigs, and climbing some mountains now and then. Amber Eisenschenk JD '12 MPA '15

Amber Eisenschenk graduated from Hamline University School of Law in 2012 and returned to complete a Master’s in Public Administration in 2015. She has always had an interest in government and got her first experience interning for former United States Congressman Jim Ramstad and then worked as an elections clerk for Anoka County. Amber has worked for the League of Minnesota Cities since law school, first as a law clerk and now as a research staff attorney. She lives with her husband Joe in Coon Rapids where Joe is a member of the Coon Rapids Fire Department. They have a two-year-old daughter and just welcomed a son this summer. Read more.
